Maboneng, meaning ‘Place of Light’, is a privately developed urban neighbourhood on the east side of Johannesburg CBD. A fully fledged thriving community, Maboneng is home to several independent retail, restaurants and entertainment venues as well as loft apartments, offices, hotel, a museum and creative factory spaces in a connected urban environment.

The bus will leave the hotel at 18:30 and return at around 21:30.

On Saturday evening Creative Commons and Hacks/Hackers Johannesburg presents an “everything you need to know about copyright” film night.

Did you know that South Africa's first successful prosecution for online piracy took place this year? That means that distant-sounding international issues like the ethics surrounding school children being fined for sharing songs online or police conducting dawn raids on hard drives and imprisoning people for downloading films are suddenly very locally relevant.

Now is the time for South Africans to understand what copyright is, how it should be fairly enforced and what the best alternatives are. Alternatives like Creative Commons.

Whether you're a regular user of Creative Commons licences or want to find out more about this web-friendly alternative to copyright, Hacks/Hackers Johannesburg and Creative Commons South Africa invite you to come and find out more, meet others who are interested in the legalities of Creative Commons publishing and watch a fine (Creative Commons) licensed movie too.

We'll be screening The Pirate Bay: AFK on 21st June at JoziHub in 44 Stanley, Johannesburg. Hacks/Hackers will be hosting Kelsey Weins of Creative Commons, along with experts and activsits from WikiMedia and more. Come along and meet those with an interest in how Creative Commons works and how we can ensure South Africa doesn't make the same mistakes as other countries when it comes to policing its citizens online.

Transport for this event has kindly been sponsored by the Wikimedia UK Chapter. The bus will leave the hotel at around 18:30 and return after the event.

Delegates will be provided with a snack box for the event.
